NOTE: All requirements must be completed in South Dakota to be postseason eligible.
Supervised Exam
To move from “Registered” to “Certified” classification, an official must take and pass the supervised closed-book exam and practice judge at two practice sessions/meets. A score of 80% or better is required to pass the exam. There is no deadline as to when this transition may be made. An official may stay in the “Registered” classification indefinitely. “Registered” officials are restricted to working regular season contests only.
Penalties
Maximum penalty is $50.00 per sport each year. All penalties result in being placed on probation and not eligible to work postseason contests.
- Not viewing online rules meeting = $25.00
- Not submitting or passing online rules exam = $25.00
- Not attending State Clinic (if not opting out) = $25.00
- Not attending intersquad meet/jamboree = $25.00
- Not attending mini-clinic/region meeting = $25.00
- No practice judging = Cannot become “Certified”
- Missing same requirement two consecutive years = Additional $25.00 or sit out one year
- Missing same requirement three consecutive years = Suspended for one year
Exam Score Requirements
- Online rules exam = 80% (two attempts per year)
- Supervised exam = 80% (one attempt per year)
